How this license applies#
The withoutBG Open Model is a composite artifact. Different parts are governed by different licenses:

When you use, ship, or redistribute the combined Model in any packaged form (checkpoint files, ONNX graphs, Core ML packages, TensorRT engines, pip/Docker bundles, mobile app binaries, or similar inference artifacts), you must comply with Apache 2.0 (Part A) and the DINOv3 additional terms (Part B). If the two conflict regarding DINOv3 portions, Part B controls for those portions.
Part A — Apache License 2.0#
withoutBG-authored materials in this repository and published Model artifacts are licensed under the Apache License, Version 2.0.
You may use, modify, and distribute those portions under Apache 2.0, subject to Part B below.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR USE, REPRODUCTION, AND DISTRIBUTION

The Model contains DINOv3-derived weights (Meta Platforms). Those portions are not licensed under Apache 2.0 alone. They are subject to the Meta DINOv3 License, which applies in addition to Part A whenever you use or distribute the combined Model.
B.1 What is covered#
- DINOv3 ViT backbone weights (OSS variant:
dinov3_vits16; API variant:dinov3_vitb16) - Fine-tuned / derivative weights that incorporate those DINOv3 Materials
- Packaged inference artifacts in any format (PyTorch checkpoints, ONNX, Core ML, TensorFlow Lite, TensorRT, or equivalent) that embed the above
B.2 Your obligations (summary)#
The Meta license controls for DINOv3 portions. In summary, you must:
- Comply with the DINOv3 License for any use or distribution of Model Materials that contain DINOv3 derivatives. Full text: https://ai.meta.com/resources/models-and-libraries/dinov3-license/
- Provide a copy of the DINOv3 License when you distribute the Model or derivatives to third parties.
- Display “Built with DINOv3” prominently on a related website, app About screen, product documentation, or model card, as required by Meta.
- Comply with trade-control and export laws and Meta's prohibited-use restrictions (e.g. military / warfare / illegal weapons end uses).
- Not remove DINOv3 license URLs or attribution from Model metadata (see Appendix C).
If Meta's terms are stricter than Apache 2.0 for the DINOv3 portions, Meta's terms prevail for those portions.
B.3 Distribution channels#
- Redistributing weights or bundling the Model (app store download, pip package, Docker image, model hub upload, etc.) → Part B applies fully: include the DINOv3 License and display “Built with DINOv3”.
- Running inference as a hosted service without shipping weights → you must still use the Model in compliance with the DINOv3 License; attach the license when distributing Model files, not necessarily when only serving outputs.
Part C — Other third-party notices#
The Model may also include components under their own licenses. Include these notices when redistributing combined artifacts:
